A Christian friend of mine was asked, ‘Do I really need Jesus to go to heaven?” Instead of saying, “Yes, of course!” He replied, “My friend, you need Jesus to go to Walmart.” Jesus said that He is the only way to the presence of our Father in heaven, He is the truth we need to combat the lies of Satan and He is life, not just eternally in heaven, but life as a child of God here on Earth. (see John 14:6)

Either Jesus was a delusional man with a gigantic ego, or He is who He claims to be, He leaves us no other choice. An empty tomb in Jerusalem settled that for me once and for all in 1964.

At a very young age we learn our first question-word, “Why?” We then drive our parents crazy by using that word in response to everything they tell us until they shout, “Because I said so!” As we get older, we add how and when to our vocabulary. God is our Heavenly Father. He guides his children (us) with prompting us by His Holy Spirit within us. Asking why before obeying is not wise, because it questions His authority over us.

When we go to our Heavenly Father in prayer for His help, we must forget asking how or when. God loves each of His children and His plans for us are better than anything we could dream of. We just need to remember and appreciate all He has already done for us and trust His love and His timing. God’s law commands us to honor our earthly parents. How much more honor we owe God for His love. mercy and grace.

I want to share with my Christian friends something God has taught me during my long Christian life. NEVER put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket or attach happiness to something you don’t yet possess. Sadly, I have known people who chased after happiness all of their life without realizing they could have simply chosen it any time. You see, happy people don’t have everything; they appreciate everything they have.

My wife and I made it through fifty years of marriage before she slipped into heaven ahead of me. We didn’t make each other happy. We were happy because we were thankful for the love we shared for God and for each other. Always choose happiness.

Jesus promised His disciples, and us, that He will return for His church of true followers. They, and we ask, “When?” Jesus answers them and us, that only the Father knows that. No human, no angel and not even Jesus knows. He did give us some signs to look for. If you are a student of history, you know those signs have been present in some way in every generation since Jesus described them. So when will we know when Jesus is coming back? When we hear the trumpet and the dead in Christ are all risen with glorified bodies and then those alive in Christ will be glorified, set free from gravity and join them in the sky with our Lord.

Let us always be ready and pray with John at the end of Revelation, “Even so, come Lord Jesus”.
